Alenia Aermacchi recently booked a contract worth some 100 million euros with the Peruvian Minister of Defence for the supply of two C-27J Spartan cargo aircraft. The two aircraft will equip the Peruvian Air Force (FAP). The agreement also includes logistic support and technical assistance. This is the second order hailing from Lima. It will bring to four the number of C-27J Spartans for the Fuerza Aérea del Peru.
The C-27J has been ordered so far by the air forces of Italy, Greece, Bulgaria, Lithuania, Romania, Morocco, the US, Mexico, Australia, Peru and Slovakia. Also by an an undisclosed African customer. In total, 80 airplanes have been ordered, Peru being the first South American user of the Spartan. However it should be recalled that the Argentine Air Force still use the legacy Fiat G.222, the ancestor of the C-27J Spartan.
Currently, Alenia Aermacchi, in partnership with General Dynamics Canada and DRS Technologies Canada Ltd, is offering the C-27J aircraft for Canada’s Fixed-Wing Search-and-Rescue (FWSAR) programme. Thanks to its rapid response time, speed, endurance and manoeuvrability, the C-27J can reach remote and austere locations anywhere in Canada, including those in the far North and at sea, faster than its competitors in its class. Its unparalleled abilities to perform short take-offs and landings (STOL) on unprepared airfields and to operate autonomously in remote areas make the C-27J one of the best platforms around for Canada’s FWSAR programme.
