The harsh realities of business
Varig is the sole of the legacy names
of Brazilian commercial aviation which
more or less survived deregulation
and the harsh realities of subsidized
transport of the past century. In 2008,
Gol bought Varig for $275 million and
announced its intention to increase the
number of seats ofered at low fares to
stimulate further Brazilian rise in air tra-
vel. “With this acquisition, Brazil will main­
tain an important fag in global aviation,
the industry will beneft from an increase
in jobs and demand will be better served,“
said on this occasion Gol’s CEO Constan-
tino de Oliveira Junior. “We are confdent
global, a indústria se benefciará da cria­
ção de mais empregos e a demanda será
melhor atendida,” declarou o presidente
executivo da Gol, Constantino Oliveira
Júnior. “Estamos confantes que através
desta aquisição a Gol continuará sua
missão de popularizar o transporte aéreo
e consolidar sua posição como uma das
principais companhias aéreas de baixo
custo no mundo. Trabalharemos para
que nossas companhias se tornem as
preferidas pelos passageiros domésticos e
internacionais.” De fato, assim como os
jatos de cauda laranja da Gol emergiram
para tomar o lugar da famosa bússola da
Varig, novos atores estão aparecendo no

comfort and reduced cabin noise. The Embraer
E-Jets are a series of twin-engine, medium-
range, jet airliners in production since 2002.
This aircraft series is very successful and in
2012, Embraer has a backlog of 249 firm orders
for the E-Jets, 695 options. So far a total of 802
