mísseis AN/ALQ-156 e dispensadores de chaff e
flare BAE Systems M-130. Enquanto os lança-
dores acima do turbinas Lycoming T55-L-11C
de 2.796 kW disparam para trás, na esteira do
rotor traseiro, os lançadores laterais inferiores
disparam para a frente do helicóptero.
The CH-47 Chinook is NATO’s most common
heavy lift helicopter. This helicopter has suffer-
red a heavy toll to the Taliban in Afghanistan.
For improved self-defence against IR and EM
threats, most of the CH-47s have received
provisions for Lockheed Martin AN/APR-39A
RWR, Sanders AN/ALQ-156 missile warning
equipment and BAE Systems (Tracor) M-130
chaff/flare dispensers. RAF Chinooks have BAE
Systems M-206/M-1 chaff/flare dispensers,
BAE Systems ARI 18228 Sky Guardian RWR and
(from 1990) Lockheed Martin AN/ALQ-157 IR
jammers and Honeywell AN/AAR-47 missile ap-
proach warning equipment. For upgrade on the
British HC. Mk 3 version, the Elisra SPS-65V-3
integrated airborne self-protection system was
chosen. Northrop Grumman AN/AAR-54(V)
passive missile approach warning system
adopted by Royal Netherlands Air Force, with
installation accomplished during 2001-2004.
While the flare launchers above the 2,796 kW
(3,750 shp) Lycoming T55-L-11C turbines shoot
backward in the rear rotor wash, those grafted
to the sponsons fire toward the front.
