avião de reconhecimento tático MiG-21R,
foi originalmente montado no helicóp-
tero Mi-24, porém os resultados foram
insatisfatórios devido a lenta velocidade
do helicóptero e pelo alcance dos fares,
que era insufciente para fornecer uma
separação razoável entre a aeronaves e os
fares dispensados.
Mi-24 e Mi-8.
copter’s slow speed and the range of the
fares was insufcient to provide a rea-
sonable separation between aircraft and
fares. An improved version, the ASO-2bis
was ftted to helicopters fuselages, fring
forward of the centerline in two banks of
three ejectors. Fitted to both the Mi-24
and Mi-8 series the ASO-2bis fare/chaf
launchers as well as the ASO-2VM adap-
table to all type of aircraft faredmuch bet-
ter against Manpads in combat.
For instance, initial Mi-8MTV and Mi-
17V “Hip H” helicopters were ftted with
ASO-2VM fare dispensers under the tail
boom forward of the tailskid assembly.
Later triple racks (for a total of 192 PPI-26
fare cartridges) were ftted on the centre
fuselage sides. This version has been seen
on Mi-24/Mi-35 helicopters. A further de-
velopment, the ASO-3, has been identi-
fed on the Mi-8MT helicopter, as well as
on other combat helicopters. It features a
neater installation and ofers much better
protection to the electronic components.
The ASO-3 has improved sequencers, a
more powerful rocket discharge system.
It has been ftted extensively to a number
of combat aircraft, including the MiG-27
and MiG-29. The later Sukhoi fghters like
the Su-27/Su-35 carry the APP-50 dis-
pensers (AПП-50, Aппарат Пассивных
Помех -

Afeganistão. O aviões F-15E e F-15C empre-
gam cartuchos Kilgore MJU-7AB e MJU-10B.
Os flares são tiras de magnésio que, quando
inflamadas, queimam entre 3,5 a 5 segundos
a 1.000°C. A temperatura de queima é mais
quente do que os gases de escape de uma ae-
ronave e, por conseguinte, atrai e ilude armas
orientadas pelo calor.

Eagle fires a bunch of IR flares in the sky over
Afghanistan. The F-15E and F-15C employ Kil-
gore MJU-7A/B and MJU-10/B self-protection
flares. Self-protection flares are magnesium
pellets that, when ignited, burn for 3.5 to 5
seconds at 1,000°C. The burn temperature is
hotter than the exhaust of an aircraft, and the-
refore attracts and lures heat-seeking weapons
targeted on the aircraft. © USAF
